Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, located in Saint Petersburg, was established as Central School of Technical Drawing in 1876. Since 1994 it has had a status of academy. Nowadays it is widely known as "Mukha", after the sculptor V. Mukhina, whose name the Academy bore during 1953-1994.
I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (Repin Academy of Art), the oldest and the largest art institution of Russia, begins its history from the Imperial Academy of Arts. Such outstanding Russian artists as I. Repin, I. Kramskoi, I. Shishkin, A. Kuindzhi an many others studied at Repin Academy of Art.
